The Piasecki H‑21 Workhorse, later called the Shawnee, is a tandem‑rotor helicopter known as the "flying banana" because of its angled aft fuselage. It was built by Piasecki Helicopter, later Boeing Vertol, and could be fitted with wheels, skis or floats for multi‑mission use. The aircraft was designed for cold‑weather operations, able to fly at temperatures as low as –65 °F (–54 °C).
