The Lockheed P‑2 Neptune was a U.S. Navy maritime patrol and anti‑submarine warfare aircraft that entered service in 1947. It replaced the PV‑1 Ventura and PV‑2 Harpoon and was later superseded by the P‑3 Orion. The Neptune was a land‑based platform that never performed carrier landings, although a few were converted for carrier launch as short‑range nuclear bombers.
