Aircraft Overview

History

Bombardier launched the CSeries programme in July 2008. The CS100 first flew on 16 September 2013 and entered passenger service with Swiss International Air Lines on 15 July 2016. Airbus renamed the family A220 in July 2018 after taking a majority stake in the programme.

Design

Two Pratt & Whitney PW1500G geared turbofans power the aircraft. Its design combines fly-by-wire controls, a carbon-composite wing and an aluminium-lithium fuselage with a single aisle and five-abreast seating.

Variants

The A220-100 is 35 m long. The stretched A220-300 is 38.71 m long, while the ACJ TwoTwenty business jet is based on the A220-100.

Operations

SWISS introduced the shorter variant into passenger service; Delta Air Lines has also operated it. The A220 programme has assembly facilities in Mirabel, Quebec, and Mobile, Alabama.
