Aircraft Overview

History

Bombardier launched the CSeries programme in July 2008. The CS300 first flew on 27 February 2015 and entered passenger service with airBaltic on 14 December 2016. Airbus renamed the family A220 in July 2018 after taking a majority stake in the programme.

Design

Two Pratt & Whitney PW1500G geared turbofans power the aircraft. Its design combines fly-by-wire controls, a carbon-composite wing and an aluminium-lithium fuselage with a single aisle and five-abreast seating.

Variants

The A220-300 is 38.71 m long, compared with 35 m for the A220-100. Both share the A220 family’s 35.1 m wingspan.

Operations

airBaltic introduced the stretched variant into passenger service. Operators have also included Delta Air Lines, JetBlue and Air France. The A220 programme has assembly facilities in Mirabel, Quebec, and Mobile, Alabama.
