Aircraft Overview

History

Airbus began studying the A380 in 1988, announcing the project in 1990 to compete with the Boeing 747. The A3XX program launched in 2000, and the first prototype flew in 2005. After certification in 2006, the first delivery was to Singapore Airlines in 2007. Production peaked at 30 per year in 2012 and 2014, ending in 2021. The $25 billion development cost was not recovered by the time production stopped.
