Air Tractor AT-1000

The air‑tractor sledge was a Vickers R.E.P. Type Monoplane that was converted into a motorised sled for the Australasian Antarctic Expedition of 1911‑1913. After a fatal crash in Adelaide, the aircraft was stripped of its wings and sheathing, fitted with skis, a steering system from the landing gear and a brake made from geological drills, and used to haul sledges across the Antarctic ice.
