Aircraft Overview

History

The first production GV-SP flew on July 18, 2002 and the G550 received its FAA type certificate on August 14, 2003. Gulfstream delivered the final commercially available G550 in June 2021 and ended production in July 2021 after more than 600 were produced.

Design

The G550 developed the Gulfstream V with drag-reduction refinements, a higher maximum takeoff weight, an extended cabin, and the PlaneView flight deck based on Honeywell Primus Epic avionics. It is powered by two Rolls-Royce BR710 turbofans.

Variants

The reduced-fuel G500 shared the GV-SP basis. Military derivatives include the U.S. C-37B transport and the EA-37B Compass Call, while the related earlier Gulfstream V is designated C-37A.

Operations

The G550 serves in corporate, government, special-mission, and military transport roles. Its long range and adaptable cabin made it a platform for surveillance and communications variants as well as executive transport.
