Frank Robinson founded Robinson Helicopter Company in 1973. Based in Torrance, California, the company developed the two-seat R22, four-seat R44, and turbine-powered R66 light helicopters and manufactures major components at its Southern California facility. The R22 first flew in 1975 and received FAA certification in 1979; the R44 and R66 expanded the product line into larger piston and turbine categories.
