The Lockheed L‑749 Constellation was the first of the Constellation family to fly nonstop across the Atlantic. It was a refined version of the earlier L‑649, featuring larger fuel tanks, stronger landing gear, and later, weather radar. The L‑749 became the standard production model for civilian airlines and the U.S. military.
