History

Gulfstream started the G650 program in 2005 and unveiled it in 2008. The first flight was in 2009, and the aircraft received its FAA type certificate in 2012. Production began in 2012, with the G650ER extended‑range version announced in 2014. The G700, a stretched version, was announced in 2019, and the G800, using the G700 wing and engines, was announced in 2021.

Design

The G650 has a cruise speed of Mach 0.85–0.90 and a top speed of Mach 0.925. It uses two Rolls‑Royce BR725 engines and weighs less than 100,000 lb, allowing it to land at small airports. The cabin is 8 ft 6 in wide and 6 ft 3 in high, with an oval fuselage that reduces drag. The aircraft is fly‑by‑wire, has winglets, and uses composite parts for the tail and winglets.
