The Cessna 150 and 152 are closely related two-seat, fixed tricycle-gear airplanes used mainly for flight training and personal flying. The 150 was produced from 1958 to 1977; the 152 succeeded it from 1977 to 1985 with minor design changes and a more powerful Lycoming engine.

History

The 150 prototype first flew on 12 September 1957, and Cessna began production in 1958. It was replaced in 1977 by the 152, which remained in production through 1985. Cessna built 23,839 Model 150s and 7,584 Model 152s.

Design

Both models use a two-seat cabin, fixed tricycle landing gear, and a high wing. The 150 used a Continental O-200-A engine, while every 152 was built with a Lycoming O-235. The 152 raised the maximum certified gross weight from 1,600 lb to 1,670 lb and limited flap travel to 30 degrees rather than the 150's 40 degrees.

Variants

The 150 line included the Trainer, Commuter, Patroller, Aerobat, and floatplane-certified 150G. The 150M was the final 150 variant. The 152 was the direct successor, retaining the basic role and layout while adopting its engine, flap, and weight changes.

Operations

Cessna 150s and 152s are widely used by flight schools and private owners. Their simple fixed-gear layout and two-seat cabin made them enduring basic trainers, and many remain in regular training service after production ended.
