The Aérospatiale Alouette II, also known as the SE 313 and SA 318, is a French light helicopter that first flew in 1955. It was the world’s first production helicopter powered by a gas‑turbine engine, replacing heavier piston engines. Between 1956 and 1975 more than 1,300 units were built. The Alouette II served in military roles such as observation, rescue, and anti‑tank warfare, and in civilian roles including medical evacuation, crop‑spraying, and crane work.
